“Places We Live” Exhibition Gallery Omata
A photography piece of mine titled “Hidden Structures VIII” was accepted to the Gallery Omata’s “Places We Live” Exhibition. The open call was to submit a piece of work based on a place that we live, I decided to submit a photo I took of a frozen spiderweb that had formed during a frosty month at Barlow House.
In the places we live, there are smaller places that smaller organisms live too. The difference however, is that these creatures have ritualistic routines that they perform to take care of the place that they live, much like the bee spreading the pollen of a flower as he flies to make honey or fungus decomposing dead waste and using it to pass nutrients to trees through their mysillium network.
We must consider that we should be doing the same to take care of the place that we live otherwise we are letting down and failing the smaller creatures who do their part to maintain the place that they live.
PLACES WE LIVE
“Our precious environment inspires artists the world over. Whether urban, industrial or natural landscapes the exploration of the places we live offers a welcome moment for creative expression. And as we live in the 21st century we are no longer limited to exploring only the earth, space also beckons to us. The tradition of interpreting landscapes stretches back through time with artists choosing to express themselves in many different forms. Through painting, photography, land art, sculpture, installations and now digital art artists channel their ideas into the works they create. To capture your interpretation of a landscape, imaginary or real, is the challenge we invite you to explore. We extend our gratitude to every artist for accepting the challenge, and their willingness to share in the community building at Gallery Omata. Thank you for your interest in their work.” - Gallery Omata
