Terra Fabula Grant by arts council

My debut solo exhibition “Terra Fabula” has been given new life thanks to the Louth Arts Council. I have been granted 1000 euro to bring the exhibition to life and debut it as my first ever solo show to the world.

I have been working on Terra Fabula for the last 6 months and still with a little longer to go until complete I can finally share what it’s about!

“Terra Fabula is a series of eight paintings, along with supporting materials (photographs, sketches, reports and video), which explores a complex and fractured narrative. The collection explores the conflict between the ancient, natural world and our modern, industry heavy society. As an exhibition, I envision it as an immersive experience, with the various elements portraying a cruel indifference towards life, and is an attempt to depict the often incomprehensibly horrific consequences of those actions. Terra Fabula is a conceptual, narrative collection. The story, set in XXXX, focuses on the discovery of a strange biomass and on the experiments and studies conducted on it by a group of scientists. Each painting acts as a chapter in the narrative with an accompanying, albeit censored report detailing the experiment and its results. Each chapter also includes photographs and sketches which fill out the narrative. As the experiments continue, the organism reacts in increasingly strange and hostile ways, becoming more and more degraded and toxic. In each chapter the painting becomes more and more corrupted and polluted. This is represented through changes in colour and texture, as can be seen in the accompanying sketches as well as my previous work. Each painting will be a combination of acrylic paint, resin, mixed media items, and multiple canvases layered with the aim of creating an ethereal, otherworldly presence.”

Watch this space as I will continue to post updates on my journey from planning to curating a solo show. Thankyou to the Louth Arts Council for supporting this project!
